A refreshing two mile run in the fog this morning at 35 weeks pregnant. Nice and easy, contractions during the second mile, but nothing to be concerned about. Always feels good to run!

Welcome to the blog! My wife Sarah (the Fast Running Mommy) has run through her pregnancies as well. One time she ran 100 meters in 35 seconds while dilated to an 8 in an attempt to encourage Jacob to come out.

From josse on Fri, Jan 25, 2008 at 18:04:54

Welcome to the blog. I get way to sick during pregnancy to run that long. I would just suffer through about 20 miles a week. Looks like you have all boys, is this one a girl?

From Virginia on Fri, Jan 25, 2008 at 18:15:07

Thanks for the welcome, Sasha! Wow! Your wife Sarah sounds pretty amazing. That makes me smile.

From Virginia on Fri, Jan 25, 2008 at 18:17:50

Josse, it's so good to be on this blog. You are a real inspiration, and that is just what I needed on these winter days. P.S. It's a boy! :)

From Jody on Fri, Jan 25, 2008 at 18:40:11

Welcome to the blog!

From MichelleL on Fri, Jan 25, 2008 at 18:55:20

Hey - Are you the Virginia that I know from the SF group? We saw each other and chatted in Macey's a month or so ago. Either way welcome to the blog - this is a perfect place for those willing to up their commitment. Keep up the running - you are almost to the end of the road with this pregnancy!

From Virginia on Fri, Jan 25, 2008 at 19:04:10

Hi Michelle! Yes, it's me! In fact, it was your words echoing in my brain from last year -- you had mentioned that you were tracking your running on a blog with Sasha, that got me to look this up this week! So much fun! You are truly amazing. Congratulations on your 3 hour marathon! You rock! I could tell from the times that I saw you that you had great determination and talent. Any clues for me on how to get from where I am to a Boston qualifying time? I know that it will include losing some weight. You sure looked great at Macey's! Besides running all the time, what have you done? What do you eat? Are you stronger than the universal craving for chocolate and sweets? So good to hear from you!

From Virginia on Fri, Jan 25, 2008 at 19:06:45

Thanks, Jody! I read your 10 reasons for missing a workout and they made me laugh out loud, because I so identify!!!

From MarcieJ on Fri, Jan 25, 2008 at 19:43:40

Welcome to the Blog, awesome that you run while pregnant! You will love the blog, great motivation and learning here!

From sarah on Sat, Jan 26, 2008 at 09:55:27

Looks like I've met my match...we even have similar blog names. (I'm the fast running mommy) Great to have you on board. I run through my entire pregnancies but that's probably my most amazing running accomplishment. I run to stay thin and happy for my kids but that's about it...nice to meet you.

From Lybi on Sat, Jan 26, 2008 at 10:44:13

Welcome to the blog! I am so impressed that you are still running in your 3red trimester! You are absolutely amazing!

From Virginia on Sat, Jan 26, 2008 at 11:06:40

Wow, I am really enjoying all the feedback and fun this blog has to offer!

MarcieJ -- Thanks for the warm welcome. Whewee! You have ran a lot of marathons. Are you in the St. George 10 year club? I'd like to achieve that prestige someday. :)

Sarah -- It's good to meet you too! You've already inspired me to unload my huge bag of oats into it's buckets (it's been waiting in the pantry for some time now...) and I'm looking forward to trying some of your yummy looking recipes! Running all the way through a pregnancy is quite a feat! It was getting tricky just to reach my feet this morning to get my shoes on. :)

and Lybi! You are so beautiful! You know what, I've had shingles too. It was a stress reaction for me, and they cleared up beautifully when they were all done being on me. I hope you recover well... sorry to hear about your pooch biting incident.

From Lybi on Mon, Jan 28, 2008 at 13:40:47

I'll pay you later... ;)

Had another great teensy run this morning.  I had been dreaming about going on a 6 mile run, but chickened out.   Sarah, how far did you run when you were in your final weeks?

I did have two events on the run 1.) a rock in my shoe, which I had to shake out, and then balance on one foot to get my shoe back on 2.) a big orange cat meowed at me until I stopped to pet it.  Then it cried and cried as I ran away.  Very strange!  I hope it didn't need me to save it's kittens or something.

I am learning that I really need to exercise more faith.  Faith that the spring really will come, and that I really will have a baby!  And of course, faith to eat right, that it really does matter in the long run!  :)  I'm starting today to be more watchful of what I eat, perhaps try on the Sasha good conscience diet.  I want to be thin and happy for my kids too.  I weighed myself this morning and saw a number I don't think I've ever seen before in my life!  And I have 5 weeks to go!

Thank you so much for all your friendliness and support already, I can see that this blog is a wonderful thing to have found!  Happy Saturday to all of you!

Welcome to the blog! Always nice to have some more fellow Spanish Forkers on the blog. I think I may have run with you on 1 or 2 occasions last summer with the SF group that meets on Scenic Dr. in the mornings.

My wife Kim is a runner and also on the blog (kim.fastrunningblog.com). I think your typical training paces may be similar so perhaps we'll join you on some of the SF running club group runs sometime.

Good luck with baby #4!

From Jody on Sat, Jan 26, 2008 at 22:55:59

Good Job again today!! I can't even imagine running at 35 weeks. I also with you on the faith - Spring will come, hopefully sooner rather than later!

From linda10k on Sun, Jan 27, 2008 at 01:41:36

Kudos on even getting outside! If it was me I'd be moaning about how much my feet and back hurt. You are a great inspiration! Good luck.

From Lybi on Mon, Jan 28, 2008 at 13:43:31

When you are in your 3rd trimester, you need to multiply your mileage by 3. So 2 miles = 6 anyway. At least that's how it would be if I ruled the world. Great job!

From MichelleL on Mon, Jan 28, 2008 at 13:58:41

I wouldn't be concerned about distance as much as by the effort you put into the runs. I only ran 2 miles or so a day toward the end of my last pregnancy, but I have heard of others running more. IF (a big IF) I had another, I would run more aggressively during the pregnancy, but that is because I am a running freak now. So, just get out there each day and it will make that day a victory. I'll be out with the SF group Saturday morning if you want to come out again.

From Virginia Faber on Tue, Jan 29, 2008 at 13:32:34

Yes, Tom, I remember you! One of the runs we were running on the trail by the baseball park and we were talking about missions! How is your son doing in Tokyo? I look forward to meeting Kim too. . . I think my pace right now is a little out of your league :), but I do l look forward to returning to the ranks of the SF club runs later this year!

From Virginia on Tue, Jan 29, 2008 at 13:34:39

Linda and Lybi,

Thanks for your encouragement! Lybi, maybe we could work out for you to at least rule part of the world. It sounds really good!

From Virginia on Tue, Jan 29, 2008 at 13:42:48

Hi Michelle!

I think you're absolutely right -- about using the effort as a guage instead of the distance ran... I had been feeling like I wasn't done running yet when I would finish a 2 mile run, so it must be good for me to run longer! However, I don't think I'm up for a group run this Saturday... I will be on the road, however, and might see you out there ... I just don't know if you'd be able to keep up with me at this point. :) (I hope you get a good laugh out of that one!)

What a beautiful run!  The mountains were gorgeous and the moon was breathtaking.  The only sound I could hear was the crunch crunch beneath my feet or the occasional car speeding by.

I even picked up the pace at the end and found myself laughing out loud it was so much fun!  Thanks for all the encouragement, it helps me get out.  I was actually excited for the alarm to go off this morning at 5:30!!

I thought I'd pass along a yummy recipe my midwife shared with me.  This is for a delicious green drink:

Stuff lots of spinach in the blender.  Add a banana and apple juice.  I like to liquefy it and then run it through cheesecloth so the texture is smooth and not gaggy.  The blend of flavors is surprisingly delicious!  It is also good with OJ instead of apple juice.  The banana makes it taste tropical, and the vitamin C in the fruit juice helps us absorb every bit of the iron in the spinach.  I really like the power punch this drink gives me!

Hope y'all have a great day!

I am going to have to try that recipe, it kinda sounds like the Naked Juice Green Machine drink (and I love that, but they are expensive). Nice job on your run!

Just read your personal info. I am a nurse also. I did L&D for a while, but now I work at a small hospital and "get to do it all!" but mostly reside in the ER these days!!!

From sarah on Thu, Jan 31, 2008 at 17:52:47

We have something else in common..I use midwives too. I've delivered at the hospital twice with nurse midwives, once at a birthing center and twice at home ...all attended by wonderful midwives.

It's a great day to be alive.  With warm germade in my belly, and a nice little run behind me, I think I'm ready for this day!

I just told my sister-in-law and my brother about this blog, so they may be joining us soon!  They have their sights on a Spring marathon, and they hale from the beautiful world of Oregon!  I know you'll love them, they are a lot of fun.

I went running this morning!  Wa-hooo!  It seemed warmer with a little snow falling.  After the alarm went off I had a little debate about going out or not, but the "yes" in me won over the "no".  And I'm so glad I went!!!  And it made me smile that the husband called me a "yellow racer" when he saw me wearing my Top of Utah race shirt.  Ahhh, to be called a racer when this great with child is a true compliment!  (I'll be 37 weeks along on Saturday.)

I did run this morning!  We have just been really busy.  We surprised ourselves and made an offer on a house this week.  Any one want to buy our house?  It's a really great one!  We just need more room now that we'll have four children.

Things are going well.  I'm officially 37 weeks along today.  The run this morning was wonderful.  What a joy to move in the brisk morning air.  Hope you are all doing well.  I so much appreciate your encouragement!

Sarah-- Aren't midwives wonderful?  I felt like I was attended by two angels for my first birth (one was a midwife, and one was a midwife in training).  This will be my first homebirth, though.  I am really looking forward to it.  I'd say more but the two year old is really needing to get tucked into bed-y-bye!

I did go running this morning!  That was, of course, before this tremendous blizzard hit.  The midwife came to visit me at my home tonight so she would know where I live when the big day comes.

I hope you and yours are warm and safe tonight!

When is the baby due? I had my fourth on my due date. I've only had two at home...which of course were my least painful deliveries...good luck!

Congratulations! I hope he is a sleeper! Good luck with everything. You must let us in on your life when you get a chance.

I'm back! I'm sorry it's been so long. I had the baby and moved to Santaquin! I'm trying to get back in the rhythm of success. The baby is sleeping again and so I am going to try and sneak out for a run this morning! Aaaah, just makes me feel good to post on this blog again. Back in the game!! I appreciate all of you so much. Just knowing that you are out there -- running on trails and roads and blogging too, brings joy to my heart.

I did it! A one hour run. It felt so good. I don't really know how far it was, and I'm probably being generous with my estimate. I was on unpaved road for most of it. Does anyone care to share about a favorite trail running shoe? I'm still running in the same shoes I ran in last year -- did two marathons and a pregnancy in them -- so I'm pretty sure it's time to go shopping!

I just tried the course  tool-- pretty great tool!  So I know I went at least 5 miles if I identified the trails correctly.  But the tool got stuck and wouldn't let me finish plotting...

Great to see you back...always felt a kinship with you because our blog names are so simliar. Congrats on your new one. We are expecting number 6 now in October. I can't believe you ran a marathon pregnant...not much slower than the time I got a TOU not pregnant!!! It you really want to get some input on shoes try posting on the discussion board. If you can't figure it out drop me or Sasha a line and we'll walk ya through.

From MichelleL on Tue, Jul 01, 2008 at 11:02:43

Welcome back! So how old is your little babe?

As far as the trail running shoes go, I can't be much help because I am not too loyal with shoes. I just try them on and if they feel good and the price is right I go to the cashier.

From Virginia on Tue, Jul 01, 2008 at 12:09:37

Thanks Sarah. It is so good to be back! I feel a kinship with you too, raising children, food storage, running to enrich our lives. Thanks for cluing me in to those forums. Congratulations on expecting!!!

Thanks MichelleL. Baby Thomas is about 4 months old now, and he's getting excited for the double running stroller coming next week. I can tell he misses running with me. So true! I should just go to my fav running store (Runner's Corner) with coupon in hand and try some stuff out. Even see if I can get lucky and have Hawk help me.

Good to hear from both of you!!

Ran out to Mona, met a dead snake and lots of grasshoppers.  I love running out in the open!  What a beautiful experience.  Got back just in time to catch a parade with the family and run some errands.  Running is a gift from God.  I'm so glad.

Yay!  Did it!  My husband is on a father and sons campout with our two oldest boys, so this morning, I buckled the two youngest into the BOB and ran up and down some big hills!  It feels like a great accomplishment.  What a great way to start the day.

Just 2 weeks until the Hobble Creek Half.  I'm going to focus on eating really well - more whole foods, less refined (like Sasha), and see if I can't optimize my potential!  Thanks for your great example.

Thanks for letting me share.  Every time I write on this blog it helps me center again and set goals.  Hope y'all have a great day!
